The water you swim in is not exactly like the water you shower in. Whether you prefer the pool, the beach or lake, we want to keep hair protected!
From one of our Master Stylists, here’s 5 things your hairdresser wants you to know to protect your hair when swimming:

1. Wet your hair before you jump in the water
Your hair can only hold so much moisture at once. By soaking your hair with clean water before you take a plunge, you reduce the amount that is absorbed from the water you’re swimming in.
2. Spray a leave-in conditioner in your hair
Putting a leave-in conditioner on your locks before entering the water creates a barrier that minimizes build-up on your hair. Try Redken One United Multi-Benefit Treatment Spray and apply generously.
3. Invest in a color mask to keep your coloured hair vibrant
It’s no surprise that chlorine and other pool chemicals can lead to your colour fading. To add pigment back into your coloured hair, replace your conditioner with a colour depositing mask from Wella or Biolage.
4. Use a clarifying shampoo
To prevent build-up and swimmer’s green (the blondes know what we are talking about), it’s important to use a good clarifying shampoo like Paul Mitchell Clarifying Shampoo Three after each swim.
5. Consider a swim cap
A fitted swim cap creates a physical barrier between your hair and pool chemicals, salt water and other elements that might be in the water.
By following these simple tips, you can protect your locks from the damaging effects of pool, lake or ocean while still enjoying your day in the sun!
