If you have an idea of the look you are going for, take a couple of photos for reference so you can communicate to your stylist where you want to end up. For color, ask specific questions about the process, length of time it will take to get there and how long it will last, the cost and how much damage or healing it will bring to your hair. If you have naturally beautiful color and just want a cut, ask questions about what the process when you're getting ready will be or what it will grow out like. Sometimes a style or color looks so great on paper (or Pinterest) but we find out the maintenance doesn't fit with our lifestyle or expectations - and that's okay! This is why a consultation is so important. A good stylist will be honest and open about what to expect. Make sure you are honest with your stylist about your hair's history so they can get a plan of action together that will benefit you. Some medicines affect how your hair takes to color and we also want to make sure that if you are out in the sun or in chlorine water all the time that we take that into consideration. It's possible that this stylist will be with you during some of the most important moments of your life - your graduation, your wedding, your baby prep, your child's first haircut, your birthdays and anniversaries, and so much more! For these reasons and others, you want to make sure that your stylist understands you and your hair goals. Is their station is clean and presentable as well as themselves? Do they take pride in the way they are portrayed? If so, they will likely want to show that same pride of work with your hair.
