The short wavy bob: coveted by hair fashionistas and spotted all over your Instagram feed, this trend, it would seem, is never going out of style. It’s a classic cut that’s here to stay. And it’s no wonder why! The short wavy bob is universally flattering, effortlessly cool and can transition through growing out shorter styles to long locks with ease. If you’re looking for ways to style your bob haircut look no further! Our girl Keltie (@hairbykeltie) from Chatters Crowfoot Crossing in Calgary has two short wavy bob hairstyles to level-up your look.

The Classic Short Wavy Bob

1. Spray with a thermal spray to protect your hair, such as Moroccanoil Perfect Defense Thermal Spray.

2. Section hair horizontally from about the top of your temples and clip to keep out of the way for now.

3. Using a 1” barrel curling wand, curl the bottom part in approximately one inch sections away from your face until the bottom section has been curled. One to try: Paul Mitchell Neuro Unclipped 3-in-1 (using the 1” styling rod).

4. Continue with the top section, curling away from your face. Take a small section at your crown and curl closer to your scalp (careful not to burn yourself!) to add a bit of volume.

5. Using a flat iron, straighten the bottom ends of your small sections to give it that edgy look. One to try: Kenneth Bernard Vibe Flat Iron.

6. Shake some hair powder at your roots for volume and texture and rough it up with your fingertips. One to try: OSIS+ Dust It Mattifying Powder
Voluminous hair powder
7. Apply a styling balm to help calm any frizz, such as Bed Head After Party Smooth Cream.

The Short Wavy Bob Updo

1. Section the front part of your hair where your bangs would be (an approximately 2” section, starting from your hairline working back towards your crown). Clip up and away, we’ll work on that section later.

2. Spray your hair with thermal protection, such as Moroccanoil Perfect Defense.

3. Grab a pointy barrel curling wand, such as the Paul Mitchell Neuro Unclipped 3-in-1 (using the 0.75” cone). Curl in approximately 1” sections. Let curls cool.

5. Release the clipped-back “bangs” section of your hair and split into 2 approximately 1” sections. Curl the section that is closer to your crown and spritz with hairspray, such as Moroccanoil Luminous Medium Hold Hairspray.

6. Pin these loose curls back toward your ponytail with bobby pins.

7. Curl the remaining “bangs” section for face-framing waves. Curl away from your face.
8. Spritz with a texturizing spray, such as Unite Beach Day to give a beachy, undone finish and extra staying power.
