Being a redhead, lots of people love to share fun facts (and possibly myths) with me about redheads. I find them interesting, so to all my friends and family, keep them coming! Through this “research” I have learned that only 2% of the world’s population have red hair, which makes us part of a very elite group! To have red hair, both of your parents have to carry a recessive gene, which is fairly uncommon. But, despite the elite status, red heads have their fair share of hair struggles and goals. I’m going to share the products that I have found to keep my red hair happy - read on!

In the Shower

Embracing your natural colour starts right when you wash your hair. Here are some products I use to keep my colour fresh in the shower!

Joico Color Infuse Copper Shampoo and Conditioner

UV exposure tends to make my coppery red hair dull and sun bleached. For subtle enhancement I start in the shower with Joico Color Infuse Copper Shampoo and Conditioner. They contain tone-enhancing pigments that makes my red pop, but still look very natural.

Before Blow Drying

During my research, I have also read that red strands tend to be thicker, which is the opposite of my hair type. I have very thin strands, but a lot of them. This leads to hair that is hard to manage and doesn’t hold a style very well. It can also fall flat easily and tends to lack volume. So how to combat limp, fine locks?

Kenra Volume Mousse 12

UNITE 7 Seconds Detanglervolume mousse

I have tried lots of mousses for volume and this one works the best for me. When I use a diffuser on my blow dryer plus this mousse, it creates nice light volume.

Unite 7 Seconds Detangler

For those redheads out there with thicker strands, tangles be gone with a spray that nourishes, moisturizes and protects against heat and UV rays. It leaves hair soft and manageable.

AG Naturals Rosehip Balm

AG HAIR Natural Rosehip Balm

Whether blow drying or air drying, AG Natural Rose Hip Balm helps keep unruly hair smooth and manageable. I love the essential oil fragrance!

After Blow Drying

Here are some products that get my red hair feeling Style Happy after I've dried it.

Matrix Total Results Miracle Extender Dry Shampoo

CLEARANCE MATRIX Total Results Miracle Extender Dry Shampoo

I apply dry shampoo right after I wash and blow dry my hair to stop oil in its tracks. I tend to have very oily hair, so dry shampoo helps keep it fresh for longer. This particular dry shampoo is my fave – it absorbs well, smells great, and is translucent which doesn’t leave residue.

Design Me Puff Me

DESIGN ME Puff.Me

This texturizing hair powder gives just the right amount of grip and volume. The spray applicator makes it easy to use for many reasons – it delivers the right amount of powder per pump, is easy to direct the spray on your roots and doesn’t make a mess.

AG Naturals Dry Lift

AG HAIR Natural Dry Lift

Another great texturizer I use is AG Natural Dry Lift. It is a paste, so a slightly different delivery method than traditional powders and sprays. A little goes a long way when you emulsify in your hands and rub into your roots. It is easy to apply right where you need it and gives a great, subtle texture.

Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray Strong

MOROCCANOIL Luminous Hairspray Strong

After styling, I give my locks a spray with Moroccanoil hairspray (I like Luminous Strong best). Although it is a strong hold it is still very flexible, so it doesn’t feel crunchy or hard.

Moroccanoil Original Treatment

MOROCCANOIL Treatment

A few drops of Moroccanoil rubbed between your palms and lightly run through your strands is oh-so-lovely. Moisture, shine, protection - this oil has a load of benefits and is a great way to finish off a style.

There you have it, all the goods to love your red hair even more. So shine on my fellow redheads and cheers to a day dedicated to us! You can shop these products in salons or online here.
